Boatnerd Gathering!
(link to www.boatnerd.com then "Gathering")
Round Trip Across Lake Michigan on the SS
Badger Carferry
This one is a lot of fun. We depart from Ludington, Michigan,
on the Lake Michigan Carferry SS Badger, for a trip across
Lake Michigan to Manitowoc, Wisconsin. You can book a one-way
passage if you want to take your car on the ferry, or be a
"true boatnerd" and leave your car in Ludington.
We'll make the round trip passage (about 5 hours each way),
with several programs on board. I'll do a concert on the trip
over and the trip back, and other Boatnerds will be making
slide slows and other presentations on Lake boats and history.
To Register call the Badger at 800-841-4243.
Space still available for the round-trip cruise, or bring
your car and take a one-way sail. Also there are still some
rooms available on Friday night, May 30, on the "Badger
Boatel"-- Small sleeping rooms, but you'll enjoy the
added benefit of behind-the-scenes tour of the SS Badger on
Friday night. Bring your camera! (e-mail
Joann for the full description).
You can even come on Friday night and book a berth (can't
call it a "room" it IS a bed and private bath) on
the Badger Boatel. The Boatnerds who come on Friday night
are often treated to "Badger extras" such as a tour
of the engine room and the Carferry (tba). Advance reservations
are suggested, especially for the Boatel.
If the "Spartan" accommodations on the Badger are
not your style, try one of the B&B's in Ludington, or
get an extra 'dose' of Great Lakes history when you book a
room about an hour down the road in Muskegon, at Langeland
House B&B. Langeland House is owned and operated by author
Elizabeth Sherman, and she can regale you with stories of
Muskegon's lighthouse and shipping history. Call Langeland
House at 231-728-9404
To reserve your spot on the Badger Boatnerd cruise, go to
www.boatnerd.com
and then link to "Gatherings" Registration will
close in late April, and the staterooms (Badger
Boatel) will probably sell out before then.
